1. Connecting to the Mixer

Setup

Ensure your phone, tablet, or computer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network subnet as the sound desk.

  1. Automatic Search and Manual Connection: Tap the Find Mixer on Network icon (the Wi-Fi search symbol) in the top right. In Foldback mode, the dialogue displays detected consoles. In Sound Engineer mode, a segmented toggle provides two dedicated views:
    • Network Scan: Automatically searches local subnets and presents discovered mixers with name, model, IP address, and a one-tap Connect button.
    • Direct IP: Enables direct manual IP address entry when local Wi-Fi router multicast or broadcast filtering restricts automatic discovery.
  2. Status Indicator: Observe the connection status pill in the top navigation bar:
    • ONLINE (Green): Successfully connected and synchronised with the mixer.
    • CONNECTING (Amber): Verifying network communication and handshaking with the desk.
    • DISCONNECTED (Red): Communication lost; an alert banner appears with an instant reconnect action.
    • OFFLINE (Grey): Idle state prior to connection.
  3. Persistent Address: Once connected, the application remembers the IP address and console model for subsequent sessions.

2. Operating Modes: Foldback vs Sound Engineer

Overview

The application provides two operational modes to prevent accidental mix disruption whilst offering full control when required.

Default Performer / Foldback Mode

Designed for musicians, vocalists, and presenters who require straightforward personal monitor mixing.

  • Focused interface: Displays monitor buses (Bus 1 to 16) and individual channel faders.
  • Accident protection: Main Front-of-House volume, DCA groups, Mute Groups, and channel processing are hidden to protect venue audio.
  • Dedicated Bus Master: Adjust your overall monitor level directly alongside the channel contribution faders.
  • Clear Mute Status: Channel buttons indicate active audio with a subtle green ON display and muted channels in solid red MUTE.
Full Sound Engineer Mode

Intended for audio engineers and technicians managing the complete venue mix.

  • Complete desk control: Defaults to the Main Stereo (LR) front-of-house view, with access to all 16 Mix Buses, 8 DCA groups, and 6 Mute Groups.
  • Channel Processing: Tap any channel label to access a comprehensive 3-tab processing dialogue:
    • Input Gain: Analogue headamp preamp gain (-12 dB to +60 dB) with nudge buttons, digital trim (-18 dB to +18 dB), +48V phantom power, phase invert (∅), low-cut filter, and live level metering.
    • Parametric EQ: 4-band parametric equaliser with interactive frequency curve, band type selection, and filter adjustments.
    • Dynamics: Interactive noise gate and compressor with real-time transfer curves and threshold settings.
  • Mute Groups: Access venue-wide mute groups directly from the dedicated navigation bar action.
  • Scribble Strip Customisation: Long-press any channel or bus label to modify names, colours, and icons.

3. How to Switch Between Modes

Security

To prevent accidental changes during live performances, the mode selector is intentionally discreet.

Shortcut: Press and hold (long-press) the application title in the top-left corner ("X32 Foldback" or "X32 Control") for approximately one second.
  1. A dialogue box titled Select Interface Mode will appear.
  2. Select either Performer / Foldback or Sound Engineer.
  3. Tap CONFIRM to apply the change.
  4. The chosen mode is stored permanently on your device and persists across application restarts.

Note for sound engineers: When in Sound Engineer mode, a discreet shield icon in the top navigation bar also provides direct access back to the mode dialogue.

4. How to Balance Your Monitor Mix

Performer Guide
  1. Choose your monitor bus: Tap your assigned bus button in the left-hand rail (e.g. "Bus 1" for Lead Vocal, "Bus 2" for Guitar).
  2. Adjust channel levels: Each vertical slider sets the level of that specific instrument or microphone in your monitor. Drag the slider handle upwards to increase volume, or downwards to decrease it.
  3. Adjust overall monitor level: The bus master slider on the right controls the total volume sent to your stage monitor or in-ear headphones.
  4. Toggle channel mutes: Tap the button above any channel fader. When active (audio passing), the button displays ON in green with a subtle green border. When muted, it illuminates in solid red and displays MUTE.
